Is synoptic meteorology a driving mechanism of airborne pollen dynamics in the central region of the Iberian Peninsula

We have established relationships between the occurrence of specific synoptic meteorological patterns and pollen/spore dynamics in an urban environment, focusing on the eight most allergenic taxa abundant in the study area.

The results show that synoptic meteorology may be a relevant factor in the measured concentrations of some pollen/spores in different periods of the year. This information can be useful to anticípate situations that may compromise health of the population and for the adoption of prevention measures by the competent authorities.

An exacerbation of the impact of the main patterns on pollen concentrations in Madrid could be expected, in the context of climate change in which we are inmersed.
